Estimate the Weight of Mild Steel Flanges

A pipe flange is a protruding rim or lip used to connect pipes, valves, and other equipment to form a piping system. Knowing the weight of a flange is essential for structural support planning, transportation, and material handling. Our calculator provides a simple way to estimate this weight.

How to Calculate Flange Weight

This tool calculates the weight of a simple, solid flange (like a blind flange or a simplified slip-on flange) based on its geometry. You will need to provide:

  • Outer Diameter: The full diameter of the flange in millimeters (mm).
  • Inner Diameter (Bore): The diameter of the hole in the center in millimeters (mm). For a blind flange, this would be 0.
  • Thickness: The thickness of the flange body in millimeters (mm).
  • Density: Defaults to 7850 kg/m³ for mild steel.
  • The calculator determines the volume of the steel ring and multiplies it by the density to find the weight in kilograms (kg). Note that this is a simplified calculation and does not account for features like a raised face, hub, or bolt holes.
