Wire Weight Calculator

Default is 8960 for Copper. Steel is ~7850, Aluminum is ~2700.

Estimated Wire Weight

N/A

Weight of the wire conductor, excluding insulation.

Calculate the Weight of Any Wire

The Wire Weight Calculator is a flexible tool for electricians, engineers, and hobbyists to estimate the weight of a wire based on its key properties. This is useful for material ordering, cost estimation, and understanding the physical requirements of a project.

How It Works

The calculator uses standard American Wire Gauge (AWG) diameters and the specified material density to calculate the weight. You need to provide:

  • Wire Gauge (AWG): Select the gauge of the wire. A smaller gauge number means a larger diameter.
  • Length: Enter the total length of the wire in either meters or feet.
  • Material Density: Input the density of the wire material in kg/m³. The tool provides default values for common materials like Copper (8960), Steel (7850), and Aluminum (2700).
  • The calculator finds the wire's volume and multiplies it by the density to provide an accurate weight in kilograms (kg), making it easy to compare different materials and plan your project.
