How to Calculate Your UPSC Prelims Score

The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary exam consists of two papers: General Studies (GS) Paper 1 and the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) or GS Paper 2. Both have negative marking.

Marking Scheme:

  • GS Paper 1: Contains 100 questions for 200 marks. Each correct answer gets 2 marks, and for each incorrect answer, 1/3 of the marks (0.66) are deducted.
  • CSAT (Paper 2): Contains 80 questions for 200 marks. Each correct answer gets 2.5 marks, and for each incorrect answer, 1/3 of the marks (0.83) are deducted. CSAT is qualifying in nature, requiring a minimum of 33% (66 marks).
  • Enter the number of correct and incorrect answers for each paper. The calculator will provide your estimated score for both papers and indicate whether you have qualified in CSAT. Your selection for the Mains exam depends on your GS Paper 1 score, provided you clear the CSAT cut-off.
